Northumberland County delivers community and social services on behalf of the seven member municipalities.
A full range of quality services are served to Northumberland residents that include but not limited to the following.
Income services, employment services, children’s services, housing services, and homelessness services. During my seven years on County Council, I have supported all of these services, and the excellent staff that deliver them. Also new programs such as the Food 4 All Warehouse.
New Food 4 All Warehouse
One of my favourites is the Northumberland County Food 4 All Warehouse. In it’s new expanded location, local foodbanks are kept in better supply to help feed those who need a hand up. In 2009, 477,000 pounds of food and products was distributed to United Way members. 46% to Northumberland food banks, 24% to faith based schools, 18% to community groups, and 11% to school programs. Some of the many partners County Council works with and supports are, The United Way, the Salvation Army, Transition House Coalition of Northumberland, and The Help Centre.

Long Term Care Home
Northumberland County as the upper tier level of government for the seven member municipalities, is responsible for and mandated by the Ontario government to deliver long term care residential services. The Northumberland County home is the Golden Plough and is a non-profit operation.
Golden Plough Lodge
The Golden Plough Lodge has evolved immensly during the last seven years, and undergone significant changes and improvements. I sat on the committee that examined the infrastructure needs of the Golden Plough Lodge, which produced a consultants document forging the way forward with many repairs, updates, and new equipment. One wing was totally gutted and transformed into 12 beautiful private rooms which are 100% occupied. We have a very dedicated staff at “the Plough” who work hard to make residents comfortable, and ensure the very best of care.
