Emergency Medical Service (EMS)

I have sat on the EMS committee for six years and I am very proud of our Paramedics, administration staff and the accomplishments that have been achieved since EMS (Land Ambulance) was taken in-house as a County directly-delivered and operated essential service.

New Cobourg Ambulance Base

A new ambulance base has been established just north of Roseneath, and EMS Headquarters and the new Cobourg ambulance base have moved to the previous Kraft research building this year. 2 or 3 new ambulances are purchased each year to meet the Province’s guidelines and best practices of units becoming no older than five years. This helps to ensure these well used vehicles are in the very best of condition to respond to the needs of our residents and visitors.

Indicative of our aging population, annual call volumes have risen since 2001 from 11264 to 15323 in 2009 and yet the response time in Northumberland still remains constant at approximately 17 minutes or less for emergency calls 90% of the time. Continuing to serve our residents in a timely manner, is due to the dedication of our Paramedics, management, supervisory staff, and County Council’s support in constructing new strategically located ambulance bases, additional ambulances and staff.
