This is a very short write-up that does not do justice to the thousands of hours spent producing data and documents to justify to the Ontario Government, that municipalities were being unfairly burdened with costs that must be paid from Provincial revenue streams, and not property taxes.
Through the hard work, dedication, and advocacy,of AMO, the Eastern Ontario Wardens Caucus, and municipalities throughout Ontario, the provincial government was convinced to upload ODB, ODSP, and Court Security costs. This has created a net result in 2010 of the lowest levy increase in Northumberland County in over a decade. After years of Northumberland County being subjected to systematic dismantalling, finally revenue streams match the costs of delivering the services Northumberland residents demand, and quite frankly, I believe deserve. I am very proud to have been part of the Eastern Ontario Wardens Caucus and the effort to achieve this huge win for Ontario property taxpayers.
In 2010, the savings to Northumberland County property taxpayers was almost 1.9 million dollars. It will continue to climb to 2018 where it is estimated to reach almost 9.6 million dollars in savings to us annually.
